Anadarko Petroleum is expecting first oil from its Heidelberg development early next year as the Gulf of Mexico project progresses ahead of schedule.

The development should start producing from the initial three wells in the first quarter, the Woodlands, Texas-based company said Thursday.

The news marks an acceleration of the project, which the company said, in its third quarter operations report, was expected to achieve first oil in the second quarter.

A replica of the company's Lucius spar, Heidelberg will have a capacity of more than 80,000 bopd and 2.3 MMcmgd.
