TGS has authorization from Mexico’s Comisión Nacional de Hidrocarburos (CNH) to acquire multibeam, coring, and geochemical analysis data over a 600,000-sq km (231,661-sq mi) area offshore Mexico.

The project will cover the entire Mexican deepwater sector of the Gulf of Mexico, including the Perdido Fold Belt and Campeche Bay. Operations will be performed alongside the 186,000-km (115,575-mi) TGS Gigante seismic survey, currently 12% (>22,000 km/13,670 mi) complete.

Fugro will acquire the multibeam data using vessels equipped with the latest generation of multibeam sonar equipment. TGS says multibeam bathymetry and backscatter data will be used to identify possible oil and gas seep targets for sediment sampling.

TDI Brooks International will acquire more than 1,000 navigated piston cores.

Acquisition is expected to start during the current quarter, pending environmental impact resolution from the Mexican authorities, and should be completed during 4Q 2016.
